dizziness problem

I posted this question about 2 weeks ago and came back to find the only response is --for a better response, post as a new question.  Here it is again:

OK, here is my dizzy story. Anyone out there that can help please do. I started getting dizzy a year and a half ago. The first doc said it was hypoglycemia and put me on a low carb diet. that worked for about 6 months then the dizziness came back. the 2nd doc said no, its not hypoglycemia. I have had numerous blood tests, hormone tests, and MRI, a CT scan of the head, an EEG. I have seen neurology, endocrinology and most recently physcology because they cannot diagnose me--so I must be "nuts". I suffer with constant dizziness increasing when I eat, sometimes to the point of blurred vision. I have neck stiffness-can't turn to the left when I am having a severe episode. I am not depressed, I dont have a lot of stress so any suggestions would be great. Recently lost my balance and fell. Doc told me to "be more careful." HELP

I am having very similar symptoms. Mine started a year into orthodontia. I am a 42 year old female. I went through the usual internal medicine who treated me for a sinus infection. Went back and had CT scan and saw two ENT's and had all the tests. Finally read that TMD/TMJ problems related to your jaw can cause this. I saw a TMJ specialist and even though my TMJ is okay itself I have sensitive muscles in the C1 part of my spine which he thinks could be occipital neuralgia and problems with the lateral pterygoid muscles in my jaw. These muscles are in turn attached to Tensor veli palatini muscles that when go in to spasm affect the closing of the eustachian tubes thus dizziness especially after eating. I hope this helps. If you have any other questions you can email me directly at banana_skinner***@****

I don't believe that common table salt is broken down by digestion.  I think the real concern of Splenda is that 15% is absorbed by the body and not merely passed through undigested. There are no long-term studies on the resultant effects of this.

It didnt seem like thay had any proof, more just concerns. As far as chlorinated molecules, I thought the comparison to DDT was kind of ridiculous. I mean, hell, table salt is chlorinated too. I wouln't worry about splenda just yet, although consiering your experience with aspartame, I could definitely understand if you want to play it on the safe side.

You're not crazy but the problem could be psychological. I know it probably pisses you off to hear this. It makes me mad when people tell me the same; it seems to somehow invalidate the pain im going thru. But the mind is a powerful thing indeed. Ive noticed that I can start to develop symptoms just by reading about or hearing about some disease. Best way to elimante psychological problems is to look back on times when you have felt better. More specifically, if they coincided with times of great merriment or sorrow. Often times, these can distract the mind, caussing symptoms to leave. Other than that, anytime you get to feeling worse or better, write down everything that you have done or not done that ay or anything else that you can think of. This can help you find a common denomenator, if there is one. Good luck.

Also, on Spelenda. As far as I know its just an isomer of sugar. That makes me suspect it less, although some isomers can be quite bad (trans vs. cis fatty acids.) Im thinking about reading up on the chemical specifics of it, but at least its not jsut some ranomly mae up compound. Aspartame is changed into formaldehyde when your body processes it. (whose bright idea was that!)

Oh really. Does the chlorine detach during breakdown?  If so, then it wouldnt be that great.

Splenda (AKA sucralose) is chlorinated... so I'm not really sure how much more natural that is than aspartame (or neotame).

Aspartame is a by-product of drug manufacturing and was 'discovered' when it was accidently tasted and found to be sweet.

I don't have a specific opinion on this, but some people are saying that splenda is bad too. Look it up, and see what you think. You may be wise to just cut out all artificial sweeteners for a while, and see how you do. Have you tried having your ears flushed? Some people also try an "ear candle" which is available at health food or natural medicine stores. I haven't used it, but my friend used it on her daughter, and was so impressed that she tried it on the whole family. i generally prefer "modern" medicine, but when the Dr. tells you to see a shrink because he doesn't know what's wrong, well it's time to explore other options. Also, have you had your Iron checked?

thank you for your responses.  Inner ear problems have been explored but I will try to eliminate aspartame.  I have been using that FOREVER!  I have switched to Splenda, but I am not consistent and sometimes pick up other sugar substitutes.  I will examine everything I buy and eliminate it from my system.  I hope this is the problem.  I wont hurt to try it.  Thank you.

I'm sure that some might be tired of me posting this, but I wish someone had told me prior to taking over seven years to figure it out myself... that said...

Aspartame's number 1 and 2 symptoms are headaches and dizziness.  If you consume lo-fat yogurt, diet soft drinks, chew gum, or eat other sugar-free products, I would suggest eliminating these sugar-free products from your diet.  Many products NOT labeled sugar-free have aspartame in them as well... including some vitamins, OTC remedies, and breath strips.  Aspartame is marketed as Equal, NutraSweet, and other names and is found in approximately 6,000 products.

It only took me a couple weeks of eliminating it from my diet to experience some relief from the symptoms, but it took me quite a while to get it all out of my diet.

Regardless of the cause, I do hope that you find the problem.  I definately know how frustrating it is to incur many medical bills and still experience problems!  As a consumer, I wonder why I can't get a refund from the four doctors I saw that didn't know what they were talking about... the last of which told me I was permanently disabled.  Best of luck to you.
