I have hyper thyroid .MY tests results on my thyroid scan and uptake came back . The 6 and 24 hour uptake measure 1.1% ,normal is 5-15% and 1.1%, Normal 15- 30% . My TSI 99,TSH ULTRA sensitive 0.02 my anti thyroglobulin 26 high, anti tpo antibody 75 high. and t4 13.7 . Lately  I have been feeling better but I have Vertigo for 2 days now and really dizzy at times . My blood presure is good . FRom the way I feel I think T4 has come down. But I quite taking the estrogen I didnt need ,so that could be a reason I feel better. What do you think of these results? Is vertigo a  thyroid problem? Or should I see a primary doctor. I see a endoconogist for the first time Monday. I dont think rai treatment would work to well if Im only taking up 1%. I really thank you for answering me. I plan to donate to MHI. because you help so many people through the fears and questions because some doctors dont have the time to answer all the questions we have. Thanks for being here..Lauriel

You likely have silent or subacute thyroiditis -- the hyper phase will resolve on its own (no, you don't need I-131). With the positive TPO, there is an increased probability of HYPOthyroidism in the next 1-3 months from which you may not recover -- this is what needs to be watched closely.

Hopefully, the vertigo is a part of the "thyroid rollercoaster" often seen in thyroiditis -- if so, it will resolve and not require separate eval/treatment.

These are different conditions -- you had Graves, while it sounds like Lauriel has hyper due to transient thyroiditis and happens to have positive antibodies (ie, a background of hashimotos).

"full recovery" happens in many,  but not all patients with Graves -- this is independent of treatment (ie, ATDs vs I-131 vs surgery) -- there seems to be a slightly lower quality of life score compared to "normals"

what kind of treatment will I get? Is there anyway to get healed of chronic thyroditis.  I am starting to feel a change in my body .I think the hyper thyroid stopped now i feel the opposite .It feels better than being stressed and sick beyond belief. I pray this will all clearup and is temporary.

If I could ask a question?

This is exactly what happened to me, except I have Graves. My TPO is still quite high along with my TSI. It's been 18 months now.

Question: Even when your thyroid levels finally come back into low normal range, (mine after 11 months of increasing Armour), do you still never recover? I'm still not feeling normal..."what ever that is anymore...LOL."  TJ

I had reoccurring thyroidits episodes which resembled hyperthryoid disease for me. It was awful. My heart would pound/race and I would get vertigo (the dizziness would wake me out of sleep), tremors, anxiety etc. Even once my thyroid "re-set" after a thyroiditis episode, I never felt right. The contant attack on my thyroid by my antibodies seemed to keep me in constant havoc even once my T4/TSH went back into the normal range. Well, what is normal??? My T4 was always at the upper end while my uptake scans continued to be elevated. I think that with thyroid antibodies and reoccurring thyroiditis....our thyroid is anything but normal and doc's need to look at us as individuals. I had to remain on beta blockers after my last thyroiditis episode in June 2005 and continued to feel worse. My cardiologist became my activist and although it was not "normal" to ablate a thyroid when thyroiditis episodes are temporary, it was undeniable that my symptoms a) started with my first thyroiditis episode, and b) were getting worse without a heart related explanation. My endo agreed to ablate my thyroid with RAI and my heart palps and other symptoms (which I suffered with constantly after my first thyroiditis episode) disappeared!!! I feel myself for the first time in 5 years. I feel better being hypo than hyper....I can finally rest and my body is not running a marathon inside. It was a long road of ruling out heart contributors etc., but I am happy to say (knock on wood) that my palps disappeared as quickly as I turned hypo. Perhaps the distruction of my thyroid (which I believe reaked some havoc on my heart/body) is no longer happening....as my thyroid is sluggish now anyways. There could be many explanations for it but it worked. Perhaps not the norm....but our thyroid is anything but normal so if we are symptomatic with an autoimmune disease such as this, our docs need to listen. These past 5 years were horrible and I can't gain them back. Thankfully, I am getting treatment now and will hopefully be able to keep from getting that reved up hyper-t feeling again.

I was wondering if my hair will stop falling out. I scared to take medication. Ive been reading others stories and when they took medicine the hair loss was worse. I dont think I can handle worst hair loss. I also get vertigo  everyday I dont know if I will be able to go back to work. I tried claritan d and i feel alot better.I sure dont want to go through years being hyper. I dont have heart palts  or anything I just feel alot of anxiety and my hair is coming out. Lauriel

I also tried a beta blocker .The first day I felt better then few days went by and I felt heaviness in my chest and had a hard time breathing so i stopped taking the beta blocker . now I feel no heaviness I wonder why it did that to me?Anybody else that is hyper have this reaction?

Were the beta blockers prescribed for heart palps, anxiety and/or tremors caused by you being hyperthyroid? Docs tend to prescribe it to people suffering from hyper-t symptoms for these reasons (it works with the T3 in the body). It took me a couple of weeks to get used to the beta blockers....felt like I was walking in water for a while. But, I needed the pills as my heart was working way too hard without it. Re: hair loss...I have thick hair so I tend to lose a lot of hair on a daily basis in the shower and after blow drying. I didn't notice any more or less but as I say, my hair is so thick that it is normal for me to lose more than most. My biggest issue with being hyper-t and having reoccurring thyroiditis was heart palps, anxiety, digestive problems, tremors, insomnia, irritability, vertigo etc.

Went to Doctor today and blood presure normal no heart palt nothing  wrong except vertigo. He thinks I am on my way to recovery and is going to see if by body will start to  heal without medication
