Can T3 help Major Brain Fog?

by Vanmel, Sep 03, 2006 12:00AM
Hi Dr. Lupo

My tsh was at 11 and i am 125 mcg of levothyroxine, however i have really bad brain fog, I was given cytomel but the first time i took it i got tachycardia and i stopped it, however the other day i got such bad brain fog that i decided to take a 5mg pill at night and in the morning i woke up soooo energized that i was amazed.

even though i had a fast heartbeat however i have been taking 5mg of cytomel for about 1 week and i have no change in my energy level  and now i dont have much of an effect from them, what could this be? do you think i need more cytomel, also i havent gotten my T3 level checked so if they are in the normal range would i  still need cytomel because of my energy level and brain fog, I am just not sure if i should take 2 a day as my previous doctor told me to take.

First get the TSH to goal -- around 1.0.  Then consider replacing some of the T4 with T3 (cytomel) if you are still having problems.
