New boil like eruption @ nape of neck now .... (see prior posting stich abscess infection)

by ChitChatNIne, Mar 02, 2007 12:00AM
Now have a similar boil-like eruption at the hairline near the nape of my neck ... size of a pea with red, swelling, beginning to come to head look to it.  I thought it was just a pimple when it started 2-3 days ago .. WRONG!

I am ok -- no fever, etc.,

It would be my assumption that when one of the stitch abscesses along the incision line ruptured last week the germ got transfered by my hands even though I washed them, etc., etc., ? or is this infection along the incision actually moving ? Should I be more concerned than I presently am?

I have prescrip ointment (antibiotic Mycopurin)in the house from my daughter's laceration awhile ago that I've started to use topically along with hot soaks there, now, too ... UGH

What do you think?  Of course my Dr. is on call but no need to call ::: quite ::: yet I don't think.   Grrrrrrrrr this is frustrating.

Thanks,

Cheryl

If this persists, will need to see surgeon to have it checked out for infection vs fluid collection.

To: Update ..1 is not a stitch abscess..biopsy Fri.
Was @ dermatologist to have all these things readdressed and the back of neck eruption was an abscess & the other remaining things are stitch granulomas and doing well along the incision line .. Dermatologist cleaned and drained the one on nape of neck & it feels better already.  He said would never have gone away on its own.

***** He is going to fully remove the bump under my adam's apple w/few stitches .. this started out of nowhere the day after surgery ????

It rapidly growing and now is about 1.5cm's round lump that is hot, tender, swollen.  He will send out for full biopsy .. was going to do a puncture biopsy but changed mind afraid of missing something (sound familiar like with thyroid nodule FNA's ??).

He is concerned contents may not be sebacious cyst but moreso a deeper tumor (non malignant) that he said I may have to go back to surgeon to fully remove. I have tightness swallowing .. I wonder about the biopsy results myself.

My ENT surgeon started to numb the incision to "go up" to this bump to drain it thinking all along it was a stitch abscess and suddenly stopped the procedure and said it was a sebaceous cyst and would be a bad mistake to drain it thru the incision this way.

So that is where I am again with another bump .. the ::::::: wait game ::::::: .. will remove this thing on Friday AM.

To: It is some kind of Lipoma..waiting pathology
& it was deep .. near the lining of the trachea.  Dermatologist doesn't know if malignent or benign..have to wait for biopsy.  He gave me his cell # ... geez, I'm numb but doing ok.

Here is a link to what it looked like (bump over incision):

Feels like a mini thyroid surgery all over again.  Handful stitches inside (better not abscess LOL) and 5 on the outside.  BUT THE SWALLOWING TIGHTNESS IS GONE ... I knew something wasn't right .. it was the tumor!!!
