Thyroid tsh/ft4/ft3 - series of test results

by alisonh, Apr 02, 2007 12:00AM
Hi,
Just looking for an opinion on some test results I've gotten over the last year and half.  I was recently (Mar 07) given a Rx for a low dose of thyroxine based on these tests.  I'm just wondering if I should follow up with an endocrinologist or just try the thyroxine to see how it makes me feel (follow up tests scheduled in a few weeks).  Should secondary/central hypothyroidism be a consideration, even though other pituitary hormone test results don't show signs of deficiency?

Aug 2005:
TSH = .82 mU/L
No FT3 or FT4 tests done.

May 2006:
TSH = .87 mU/L
FT4 = 9.0 pmol/L
FT3 = 4.1 pmol/L

June 2006:
TSH = .86 mU/L
FT4 = 8.2 pmol/L
FT3 = 4.0 pmol/L

Feb 2007:
TSH = 1.57 mU/L
FT4 = 12 pmol/L
FT3 = 4.7 pmol/L

Other notes:
Thyroid antibody tests done Mar 07 came back normal.
I also have three "predominantly cystic" masses on my thyroid that are being monitored, but for now show no signs of malignancy (1.5cm, 3mm, 4mm).

Thanks for your time,
Alison

Labs look normal overall, don't see the indication for a low dose of thyroxine -- we don't typically do this for nodules anymore.  Doubt there is a pituitary problem.  You need an ultrasound guided needle biopsy of the 1.5cm lesion.
