Hyper - now low T3 due to PTU - hypo symptoms?

by kcmigs, Jul 07, 2007 12:00AM
Have been diagnosed with hyper.  On PTU - initially 900mg/day which drove my T3 from high to normal to low now.  My dosage has been reduced to 300mg/day to address this and I don't expect it to take effect right away but I have had high metabolism all my life (45yo) but now with low T3 should I been experiencing hypo symptoms?

OBTW - I have been lucky enough (??) to experience Thyroid Storm if you'd like to know about that.

Fortunately, thyroid storm is rare -- but it underscores a significant hyperthyroidism and importance of keeping T4 and T3 stable.  Symptoms may 'roller-coaster' a bit while going from hyper to hypo and are often unpredictable - so for now, go by the numbers.  Would repeat test in 3 weeks to make sure 300mg/day is enough to keep you out of hyper.  Also, consider the switch to tapazole, which is usually more stable and effective in managing hyperthyroidism (exceptions -- pregnancy and initial treatment during sever hyper).
