Enlarged axillary nodes and spleen

by vnss80, Feb 10, 2007 12:00AM
I am a 32 year old female.
I have recently discovered an enlarged lymph node on my right armpit. I did a breast ultrasound that was ok. on my right armpit, they found a 11,5 cm and a 7,8 cm lymph node. also, a 9.5 cm lymph node on the left armpit. is this the normal size for axillary lymph nodes? the ultrasound showed no signs of malignancy. also i am very concerned as to whether the ultra sound would show accurately  malignancy in the lymph nodes. I had a complete blood count and a serum protein electrophoresis test. results were perfectly ok.
my doctor also had me do a spleen ultrasound. the radiologist told me that my spleen is 12 cm long x 7.00 cm which is on the upper normal limit. I am panick because my research on the internet came out that enlarged lymph nodes & spleen are symptoms of hodgkins/non-hodgkins/leukemia etc. 7 years ago, when i had had a spleen ultrasound, it was small, 10.9 cm.
Are those findings normal or should i worry and what other tests could i possibly need to have done?

There are a multitued of follow-up screening tests, some of which are listed in this good review article:

It depends on the suspected diagnosis what test is ordered, I can't recommend one for you since I haven't seen you in clinic.

Please be advised that answers are given as general health information, not intended guide your specific treatment. MedHelp physicians can comment on treatment options in general, not specific to your case, so it helps to ask the quesion in such a way: 'If a 32 year old female discovered a lymph node... what other tests possibly need to have done?'
