possible insect bite?

I started noticing last night that my neck (all the way from the front down to my collarbone to around the left side of my neck and the back of my neck) was irritated to the touch (it felt almost like a rug burn). When I woke up this morning, it was worse and had become tender to the touch. Just having my blanket touching my neck felt like someone was pushing against it. And now (midday) it feels like a bad sunburn; and I just noticed that I have a large lump behind my right ear. I was wondering if this could be an allergic reaction to an insect bite, or some kind of dermatological issue. I don't have health insurance and don't want to pay for a doctor visit if it's nothing. Also, my temperature is 99.8 orally.
