Interstitial Cystitis from birth control?

by ddv, Aug 02, 2007 12:00AM
I am a 38yr old female. Healthy weight and healthy overall. Was on birth control for 6yrs (ortho tricyclen lo mostly)and went off it in September last year when my relationship ended. By December I had problems with cystic acne. Dermotologist and gynogologist suggested I go back on the pill. Began Ortho again but acne remained. Plus I rekinded my relationship. In June I was told to try Yaz for the acne. After first pack I missed a period. Had pregnancy test done. Not pregnant. Within a week of missing period I began having lower back pain, pelvic pain, overall burning in butt and genital area when sitting. When having sex I noticed pentetration seemed to bother me some. Within a week pain got worse. Had ultrasound, cultures and urine tests. All normal. Second pregnancy test negative. Had sex again and this time, with each thrust, it felt like I was being stabbed deep in my pelvic. Or...another way to describe it..felt like that rush of pain you get with a UTI when you urinate. My gyno said Yaz is not good for me. That my "lining" inside was very thin and causing me the missed period and pain. I've been researching and found that Yaz can cause bladder problems. Could this pill have given my interstitial cystitis? I am set to start Ortho again this Sunday. Will the switch make the pain go away? Or is the damage done and I will be like this forever? Very worried and concered.

Get an evaluation by a pelvic floor physical therapist to see if you have painful pelvic floor trigger points. If so, these can be cured py physical therapy. also makes sense to go back to your original pill to see if it helps your symptoms.
