Life after Rectocele repair

I had a rectocele repair 5 weeks ago and attempted sexual intercourse. Was too early to pursue that activity?  And also, will the inside of my vagina be smooth or will there be scarring?

I usually ask my patients to avoid intercourse for 4-6 weeks after vaginal prolapse surgery. Thereafter, it really should not hurt. If it is a 'scrapy' pain, it may be because of vaginal atrophy, and you may benefit from a course of vaginal estrogen therapy, to decrease symptoms of atrophy.

If it is still painful after the estrogen, you might want to ask your surgeon to evaluate the repair to see if there is a correctable cause for your pain with intercourse.
