Incontinance problems, more advice needed

by Rowlshar, Feb 26, 2007 12:00AM
I Have had an appointment today with the gnae for my bladder incontinance.  It started all of a sudden in Oct last year when i felt i had to go to the toilet at that minute and directly wet myself.  Embarrassment followed in heaps, especially at work!!!  I have had exercises from the physio and today my appointment came for tests.  I have got a prolapse, a weak wall and also a cyst on the ovary.  i have also got a problem where my bladder is not emptying all the way.  At first, the understudy was sendng me for more tests, gave me exercises (more!) and also medication.  She went to check with the consultant and came back and said just exercises where given and a date to see about a catheta of some sort i can do myself.  An appointment in 4 months follows.  Im gutted.  Im 41, i cant do the things i normally do i.e. gym and even sex because of wetting myself and i feel that life isnt worth living at this moment.  I cried in the room, cried in the car, all the way back to work and havent stopped since.  Any advice on what to expect, any questions i should ask or is this my future?

Based on what you have disclosed, it sounds like you have a prolapse, some urinary retention, and urge incontinence. Advanced prolapse can be associated with retention, which can be associated with urgency, and urge incontinence. These are all correctable problems. If you are trying not to have surgery, a pessary may help the prolapse, which may also help the retention and urge incontinence. Many times surgical therapy can correct the prolapse, and the voiding problem.

PLease locate a trained urogynecologist, and go in for a visit.  Small ovarian cysts tend not to contribute to bladder problems.
