Severe testicle pain, please help!

by GGAN, May 13, 2003 12:00AM
I have been suffering with SEVERE pain in my left testicle since March 2, 2003. I have seen five doctors for it. The latest doctor performed a microsurgical inguinal varicocele repair on me. Now, 12 days after the surgery, I am still in severe pain. He couldn't say for certain that the varicocele was the sole cause of my pain, but he couldn't find anythig else wrong, so we did the surgery. Prior to the surgery, via the various doctors I saw, I had 2 blood tests, 2 urine tests, 1 semen test, 2 ultrasounds and 1 CT scan. None showed anything, except for the varicocele on the ultrasound tests.

Is it too soon for me to expect releif from the pain, or might there be something else wrong? I am in agony and I don't know where to turn.

Hello - thanks for asking your question.

If you have seen 5 physicians and have had surgery, ultrasounds and CT scans it would be difficult for me to say what is causing the discomfort without the benefit of even seeing you.

First, I would definitely stay in close contact with your urologist to make sure that there is no surgical complication exacerbating your pain.

Causes such as torsion, epididymitis, and UTIs would have been found via the studies you have had.

Here are other diseases to consider.  Prostatitis can present as scrotal pain.  Tests for urine and prostatic secretions before and after prostatic message should be performed.  I would also consider tests for STDs such as Chlamydia and gonorrhea.

Lastly, you may want to consider a neurology referral to determine if any nerve damage may be causing your pain.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
