buring after urination

by jasonzzz, Dec 06, 2003 12:00AM
the past week or so i have been noticing i get a slight burning feeling around the lower part of my penis after urinating. also i noticed sometimes my urine will not be in one big stream but some going off to the side. my first thought was that it could be and std or uti but the last time i had sex was a month before this started happening. could that still be possible? i did have unprotected sex and she said she was clean. other than std or uti, is there anything else it could be? plus could it be an std or uti when i only have the one symptom of burning? also if it is an std/uti how long after i've taken the antibotics do i have to wait to have sex again? also are there any negative effects to taking antibotics? i've never taken them before. thanks.

To answer your questions:

1) Yes, it is still possible that an STD or UTI can be causing your symptoms despite a month passing after you had sex.

2) Other than an STD or UTI, things like prostatitis, epididymitis, a urethral polyp or urethral stricture can also cause burning after urination.

3) Yes, it can be an UTI or STD if the only symptom is burning.

4) There is no set time after taking antibiotics before sex is safe.  This is dependent on what kind of infection is present and should be discussed with your personal physician.

5) All antibiotics have side effects.  For instance, they can include GI (i.e. nausea, diarrhea, upset stomach), allergies, or dizziness.  It would depend on which antibiotic is used and this issue should be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
