Prostatitis

by Olmeca, Feb 16, 2006 12:00AM
Hi Doctor I hope you can help. I am 29 year old male , very healthy. About 6 months ago I was given unprotected oral sex by a woman I dont know. The next day my scrotom was on fire , this lasted for a week and I needed to e more frequently.I went to a doctor and we tested for all STD'S all negative.Gave me a course of antibiotics just for incase.A week or two passed and I started getting really constipated , I also had a bloating feeling in my stomach area and my left lower back was killing me. I did not pay much attention to the constipation because I was on a high protein diet and I thought I injured my back wakeboarding. A week or two later it hurt when I got an erection and started getting muscle twitching all over my body.Went back to the doctor said it was nothing. I was paranoid I had Herpes II.Waited for the window period to pass tested for HERPES I&II, was positive for HERPES I. Then I went to see a Neurologist for the twitching , did a Lumbar punch. The results was that I had inflammtion in my spinal fluid and he diagnosed me with Gillain Barre Syndrome and said it would pass.No medication given.Every now and then I have a burning sensation on the tip of my penis , the urethra looks always reddish and slightly inflamed.I have constantly lower back ache , muscle twitching and my stomach muscles go into spasm. When I get an erection the head of my penis looks much bigger and very red like there is inflammtion.A couple of minutes after I ejaculate the tip of my penis starts burning a bit.

My questions are

1)Does this sound like Prostatitis?

2)Is there a cure for?

3)If not prostatitis what could it be?

Its been about 6 months and still feeling terrible.I am seeing an Urologist in March. I hope you can shed some light on this matter.

Thanks

To answer your questions:

1) Prostatitis is certainly possible.  I would consider a thorough prostate exam and send off any prostatic fluid off for culture and analysis.  A transrectal ultrasound can be considered.

2) If it is prostatitis, extended courses of antibiotics (sometimes lasting 4-12 weeks) can be considered.

3) Dermatitis, a fungal infection, or anatomic abnormality can all be considered.  A dermatology evaluation can be considered to look at the redness.  A cystoscopy can be considered to look for a urethral stricture or polyp.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
