Crank

by Patti, Jan 30, 2000 12:00AM
My 24 yr. old son was using crank heavily. He has been off of it for 54 days because he has been in jail.  After a few weeks, he looked better (dark circles gone, skin clear, etc.)  He was agreeable to rehab and quite optimistic about his future.  But he has had asthma since childhood.  The jail doctor prescribed Albuterol, Beclovent, and Methylpred.  Since he began taking these prescriptions, he has gone downhill badly.  He now refuses rehab, is moody, angry and argumentative.  His dark circles have returned and he looks bad.  Could these prescriptions have caused this?  I don't think the doctor knew anything about the crank.  Also, in childhood and early adolescence  he took Ritalin and Imperamine for ADHD.  I recently found out his paternal biological Grandmother and Uncle are both diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia.  His Uncle and Father are both addicts (alcohol and crank).  Help!  I am deperate!

PATTI,

HI!  I AM A 23 YEAR OLD, RECOVERING CRANK USER, I HAVE BEEN CLEAN AND SOBER FOR 3 YEARS NOW.  MY MOTHER, FATHER, AND BOTH SISTERS ARE ALL ADDICTS TOO.  MY FATHER HAS BEEN LOCKED UP ALOT AND SO HAS MY OLDER SISTER.  I JUST WANT TO WARN YOU TO PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, REALIZE AND UNDERSTAND THAT EVEN THOUGH HE IS YOUR SON, HE IS A DRUG ADDICT TOO.  WHILE HE IS IN JAIL HIS INTENTIONS ARE THE BEST INTENTIONS IN THE WORLD, BUT ONCE THEY HIT THE STREETS, WELL THAT IS ANOTHER STORY.  REMEMBER PATTI YOUR SON KNOWS HE NEEDS YOU RIGHT NOW, SO HE IS GOING TO TELL YOU JUST WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR.  AND ALSO REMEMBER THAT JUST BECAUSE YOUR SON IS IN JAIL THAT DOESN'T NECESSARILY MEAN THAT HE IS CLEAN AND SOBER.  THERE IS WITHOUT A DOUBT JUST AS MUCH DRUGS IN JAIL, AS THERE IS OUT HERE ON THE STREETS.   IT COULD BE THAT YOUR SON IS USING AGAIN WHILE IN JAIL.  IF ALL THE SIGNS ARE THERE THAN MORE THAN LIKELY HE IS USING AGAIN.
