Darvocet

by stacy, Aug 15, 2000 12:00AM
I have been told after several tests that I have a "slipped disk" in my neck. While waiting for a Dr. to get back from a personal leave I was given Ultram and Darvocet to help control the pain. My question is this: I took 2 Ultram at 7 am, by 10 am I was in severe pain, I took 2 Darvocet. Again at 3:30 I took 2 more Darvocet to keep the pain under control. I thought that I could sleep through the night, but at midnight I was just hurting. I again took 2 more Darvocet. Well about 20 minutes after taking the last 2 I experianced sweats, light anxiety, my chest seemed tight and my breathing was slightly more difficult and I seemed to be in space. Looking back on the day I took 6 Darvocet and 2 Ultram between 7am and midnight.

Can anyone tell me if there is a risk mixing the 2?

I am wondering about ultram also, but this forum seems to be accepting only one question a day, perhaps due to funding shortages. I'm wondering if ultram can be used to ease the discomfort from oxycontin withdrawl. I know this isn't where you are supposed to post questions, but have been trying for days and really need some information. Anyone?

Read about Ultram below. There's a rather long thread on it.

It sounds like you somewhat od'd on the pain relievers. I believe those could be considered mild symptoms of narcotic intoxication. They certainly sound like symptoms of Darvon intoxication (I should know). Stacy, it really sounds like you need to go back to your doctor and tell him the pain meds he's given you aren't addressing your pain. I know that Darvocet is not always anymore effective than tylenol or aspirin. The Ultram is an effective pain reliever, though. I'd say two of them are as effective as one Vicodin. One thing I experienced was that the Ultram didn't really kick in until the second dose. You might benefit by stopping the Darvocet altogether (I doubt if you were supposed to mix them with Ultram) and taking the Ultram at disciplined intervals (in other words, as prescribed). One thing you don't want to do is impulsively take drugs like these. You need to make sure you don't overdose because you forgot when the last pill was taken. If the Ultram doesn't work, I'd say you need to look into different treatment. Just taking more and more when a drug like that doesn't work will just get you into trouble. Some people have even died as a result of mixing Darvon with other depressants (like alcohol or tranquillizers). Take care. Hopefully, Brian or Doctor Steve will answer you soon.

darvocet is efective.I am not a doctor therefore i can only offer

you my personal opinion.Next time(if there a next time)try taking

only the darvocet. If that is not strong enough, ask your doctor

for Vicoden or something a little stronger and longer lasting.

Many pain killers are highly abusable and should not be used

for extended lengths of time.Take care,I wish you well.

While your mixing of these 2 medications might have been enjoyable, it was a little dangerous.  You are not supposed to take more than 3 darvocets ina 24 hour period.  There is an acception to this if you have a high tolerance.  But if this was your first time taking these you probably shouldn't have taken so many plus the Ultram.  Just don't do this again.
