zoloft § mushrooms

by matt, Feb 20, 2001 12:00AM
I ate about a half an 8th of mushrooms two months ago. It was the third time I ate them in 4 months. I had a bad trip, thought I was going to die and had to be rushed to the emergency room. For three weeks I felt fine, and I was assured that the drugs were out of my system. When I went back to college I started having horrible panic attacks, where I felt real spacy and thought I was going to lose my mind. Combining that with depression, I've never felt worse. I've gone to the emergency room two additional times because of panic attacks. I've been on zoloft now for a week, and the last four nights have been real rough. I feel like I have brain damage, and the zoloft has been accompanied by tremor, headaches, and fear of dying. What should I do? I've been told it takes awhile to get used to the medication (at least two weeks.) I also heard that a discontinuance of zoloft can cause nausea. Please help.

I took some LSD about 3 years ago in Ocean City MD and I had a terrible trip.  I was in outer space, la-la land.  It took me two years to finally start being able to socialize like a "normal" person.  You will get better.  Mushrooms are a much better hallucanigen because they are organic.  But there are still chemicals in them that affect a very delicate chemistry in your brain.  When one does that, how could one not expect something to eventually go wrong?  I know where you are right now and you will get better.  Trust me.  IT WILL GO AWAY.  It takes time.  I wish you well and stay away from that **** bro!!

Take Care

Go on the net and look up some of the psychoactive mushroom sites and suppliers. Some of these people may understand what you are going through and offer you information. Did you eat too many ?? Personally I feel that AD's are often a shot in the dark to help balance out brain chemistry. It's hard to predict who will have which of the many side effects. Even the doctor won't know for sure if it's a side effect of the zoloft or the mushrooms. I do know that panic can be treated with non-addictive drugs that are not anti-depressants. And they don't take 2-4 weeks to work. Inderall is one of them. You can ask the doctor about this. By the way, what do they do in the ER for a person having a bad trip ?? Do they give you something ?? I have often wondered. When my daughter was in treatment there were several young people with varying degrees of schizophrenia... and it was not determined in the ones who had taken psychedilics if this was the cause... not a true schizophrenia but a form of brain damage due to the drugs. I am a mother and I will preach... don't do this again, you are lucky you are back at school and not in a mental ward. Love, Brighty

I would get off the antidepressant first and allow your neurosystems to restablish their new/old equilibrium,You have definately developed panicks, but did you have them while on the mushroom experience and/or did they occur spontaneously later after coming down off the mushrooms and feeling normal again?,are they associated with any event or can they occur anytime without warning?,did you have panick attacks before taking any drugs earlier in your life?the genesis of pathology can determine if the mushrooms uncovered a latent panick disorder or caused a chemical imbalance or the experience was to powerfull and traumatized you or is a combination of any of the above. In each case the approach to resettling you will be different.

You are lucky they may have uncovered a latent psychosis,In any case it can take time to recover from a BAD trip, sometimes it changes a person for life(for better or worse),it depends on what was under the surface in the first place?does feeling panicky or shy and nervous seem totally out of character for you?

What was the setting in which the mushroom trip took place, what was your mood and frame of mind before taking them?I am sorry I only have questions, but you have the answers and you can find peace again within yourself, without chemicals.
