Question Title: bradycardia/gastric by-pass

Forum: The Heart Forum
Topic: Bradycardia

Could you please comment on the role / effects of sinus bradycardia as a possible result of gastric by-pass surgery and subsequent significant weight loss? Thank you.

Dear cmg,

Thank you for your question. Whenever the body decreases it's caloric intake be it through surgery or other means (i.e. starvation) the metabolic functions of the body slow down as compensation. Therefore I would not be surprised to see a drop in heart rate as a result of severe caloric restriction. Hope this answers your question.
