Question Title: AVR via mammary incision?

I know that Aortic Valve Replacement (homograft) can be done through an 8cm sternal incision (mini), but can it be done through a mammary incision? Any changes in risks, time on bypass, etc?

Thank you.

Dear Debbie,

Yes, AVR can be done through a mammary incision (left breast area). There should be no increase in risks although the time of surgery may be a bit longer. The final decision should be between you and your surgeon and only he can tell you the exact risks for your particular situation. Best wishes.
