Question Title: Blood Pressure & ExerciseForum: The Heart Forum
| |
I am a year 11 sports studies student. Is there a link between blood pressure and exercise? Obviously your systolic and diastolic readings are higher after activity, but why. I am looking for a more technical, in depth answer than I've been able to find in books. Thanks. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- During exercise it is normal for blood pressure to increase. This is due to the increased cardiac output, as the heart beats more vigorously, in response to substances such as adrenaline. The exact response depends on the type of exercise and the health of the individual. One of the long-term benefits of exercise is that it decreases blood pressure. That is why doctors recommend exercise as a means to treat high blood pressure. I hope this is useful. You can find out more form a standard physiology textbook in your local library.
