Question Title: Activity induced tachycardiaForum: The Heart Forum
| |
Posted by Tami on June 21, 1999 at 12:21:55 My 14 year old son did not pass his sports physical due to an irregular pulse rate. I took him to our pediatrician. His resting heart rate was 120. He had him do some jumping jacks and his heart rate jumped to 170. He had a normal EKG done and will be getting an event monitor. He has always been healthy and is very active in sports. He does have occasional episodes of dizziness. We are not sure at this time if it is related to his heart rate. Should we be concerned at this point about him participarting in sports? What other tests should I request be done? There is no history of drug or alcohol usage.
Posted by CCF CARDIO MD JMF on June 21, 1999 at 16:53:59 Dear Tami, Thank you for your question. I would recommend an assessment to rule out arrythmias (as you are doing with a holter monitor), a formal stress test and finally an echocardiogram to rule out structural causes of heart disease. Please keep us posted on your son's progress. I hope you find this information useful. Information provided in the heart forum is for general purposes only.
