I am a 40 year old female with CHF, type II diabetes, pacemaker, and
afib. Several attempts to stop afib include cardioversion and medications;
neither of which worked. On last visit to cardioligists office the topic
of an electrophysiologist was mentioned. Can you tell me what this
kind of doctor does for afib and is it usually successful. While I really
hate the coumadin and blood tests, I don't want to spend time in the hospital if might not be successful. Thanks so much.

Dear Lisa,

Thank you for your question. An electrophysiologist is a cardiologist who specializes in heart rhythms. There are many different types of treatment for afib including drugs, cardioversion and certain types of surgical approaches. The type of treatment best for you can be determined by an electrophysiologist.
