I am a 27 y/o male and I was just recently put on the new High Blood Pressure medication called Avapro, What I would like to know is what restrictions I should have, like alcohol consumption, caffiene, smoking, etc., I have contacted my physician's nurse and she told me to check with a pharmacist on that information. I was never really informed by my doctor about this medication. I have been added to an ongoing study of this medication and would really like to know what my restrictions are.
_ Dear Craig, Avapro is one of a class of new antihypertensive medications known as angiotensin II receptor inhibitors. These medicines appear to be safe and well tolerated, but their long-term efficacy has not been proven. Also, they are quite expensive. In discussing Avapro with a pharmacist, I could not find any specific restrictions. The medication is contraindicated in cases of significant liver or kidney impairment, and thus excessive alcohol intake which may impair liver function is not recommended.
