Question Title: My fingernails are blue???

Forum: The Heart Forum
Topic: Heart Disease

I am a 43yr old female. I am never sick. Lately I sleep all the time. I feel exhausted after a few hour after getting up. My nails near the cuticles are very dark purple blue. I went to the emergency room and my BP was 123/60 , my heartrate was 100-110. They took an ekg and asked if I had ever had an ekg done before. Okay I am scared especially when you add to that with....when I was thirteen my mother started to where she couldn't breathe... she would walk ten feet and her whole fingers, lips and nose would go very blue. She went into the hospital in November and died of pulmanary thrombosis in January.....am I going to die soon too????

Dear Plaisance,

I can’t really comment on a specific diagnosis for your symptoms. Fatigue is a common complaint and could be due to a variety of things from serious to not so serious. Dark blue cuticles could indicate a low amount of oxygen in your blood but is a nonspecific finding. I would make an appointment with your family doctor or internist to have a complete physical and any testing needed. Hope everything turns out all right.
