Subject: Re: HEART TRANSPLANT Several months ago I had written asking the question if I could be experiencing reactions to some of the medications my husband was taking ie: cyclosporine, imuran, prednesone... etc. you very kindly suggested that there may be an underlying problem and that it was unlikely I would be getting enough of his medications in my system to create a problem. After several visits to his cardiologist, we determined that you were correct, it was in my head, but very real. when a family member has a long term illness, it is very hard on family members...Both unfortunately and fortunately, we have decided to go our separate ways for a while and the space has left me with peace, it has left him having to care for himself... During the past three years, I have seen older heart patients refuse going on the transplant list because of the medications and their unwillingness to suffer through the side effects of the medications... I now have an new understanding and respect for their decision when they take into consideration their quality of life. I practically lived with my husband at the transplant center and at no time were we counseled or prepared for the recovery road and life changes that layed ahead. I have seen many male patients cry, female patients weep and family members reach out for help and instead of receiving answers, receive a hand full of brochures and literature... I want to thank you for kindly and gently making your correct assumption. thank you. _____ Dear Sharon, Thank you kindly for your message, I will make sure that the physician who answered your question reads the message. It is great that you recognize that your own health and quality of life do come first and I wish you luck in the future.
