Question Title: Exercise Induced Ventricular Tachycardia

Forum: The Heart Forum
Topic: Tachycardia

Last week I was diagnosed with exercise-induced ventricular tachycardia after a cardio cath and an EPS. My doctor also wants to do an MRI. I am a 33 year old healthy female who exercises regularly and eats right. My doctor put me on a low dose of lopressor and told me I should have no limitations on my activities. I am trying to find out more about this condition, the long term effects of the medication, as well as effects on pregnancy (I'm not, but am trying). However, all the resources I've found focus strictly on v-tach. What can you tell me about this condition and where can I find additional information. Thanks.

Dear Maria ,

Topic Area: Tachycardia

Thank you for your question. The answer will depend upon several additional questions. Why was the work-up started? Were you having symptoms such as fainting or chest pain? Did the tachycardia spontaneously stop? How long did it last for? What were the finding on the cath and EPS?

Lopressor is a beta-blocker medication that helps prevent fast heart rhythms. It is widely used and is generally well tolerated. There is no contraindication to use in pregnancy. Potential side effects are fatigue, depression and impotence in men. If you can let me know the answers to the above questions and I may be able to give you more information.
