Had bypass 8 weeks ago, and had quick recovery, and solid exercise program since. Also was in top physical condition before bypass.

How long does it take for the the chest and sternum to heal to allow someone to play tennis singles/doubles?

________

Dear Bob, thank you for your question. Typically, the sternum and the chest take 2-3 months to heal properly after open heart surgery before vigorous exercise can be restarted. Since you were in good physical condition before your bypass surgery, you should be able to recover more quickly. However, you should check with your own cardiologist before starting to play tennis again.
