Question Title: Cholesterol Level

Forum: The Heart Forum
Topic: Heart Failure

Hi,
What would cause a cholesterol level to rise from an okay position to a high position in a matter of a few months?
Thank you in advance for you help and consideration.

Susie

Dear Susie, thank you for your question. It would be unusual for the cholesterol level to dramatically rise in a few months unless the dietary intake of cholesterol was dramatically increased since the prior cholesterol check. Also, the cholesterol level can be high if measured after a meal, so maybe the second cholesterol was measured after a meal and the first cholesterol was measured after the appropriate 12 hour fasting period. Thus, to clear up the confusion, maybe a repeat fasting cholesterol level would help.
