Question Title: Anemia and Palpitations

Forum: The Heart Forum
Topic: Palpitation

Because of a medication I am taking (imuran), in the past couple of weeks
my blood counts have all dropped rapidly. My doc is taking me off the imuran
but I have for the past few days experienced palpitations or strange heart
beats. I was wondering if being anemic can cause this, and whether or not
this is an area of concern.

Thank you

Dear Dana,

Thank you for your question. This is the first time I have heard this question. I don't have a definite answer for you but I would suspect that anemia could precipitate palpitations. The best way to test this is to see if they go away when your blood counts come back up. Any one else have this experience?
