My wife is about 240#, bp @140/88,colesterol is 241with hdl at 56. She has a moderatley active lifestyle,slight alcohol consumption, and a family history of both heart desease and cancer. Her doctor is recomending Zocor but she is concerned about side effects. After 8 months of treatment she has pain at area of liver,gallbladder plus insomnia with no reduction in cholesteral levels. shopuld she continue this treatment? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for your question. Questions concerning an individuals medications should be directed to their physician. There are many factors that go into the decision to use certain medications including the patients lab values, their other medical problems and medications, allergies, lifestyle and patient preference. Any side effects thought to be due to a medication should be promptly reported to the physician who started the drug. In addition whenever a doctor starts a new drug he/she should be aware of all of the other drugs including over-the-counter medications that one is taking.
