Subject: Re: racing heart Hi, my name is Eileen deCamp. I am 37 years old and have been on medication for a racing heart since 1995. I was put on propranolol 10mg 4x a day which controlled my symptoms for awhile, but I also became dizzy and experienced nightmares. I was switched to Tenormin 25mg once a day in l998. I feel better on this med. Lately I have been experiencing problems again with my heart racing at night. It usually always happens when I am asleep. I wake up with my heart pounding. It was so bad last month that I called 911(at 2 am) but I also took the Tenormin about 15 minutes before they got to my house. When they arrived and hooked me up to a monitor my heart was only going 110 beats per minute. They checked with a 12 lead monitor and it was normal. I felt really bad for calling them, but I was really scared. I have had numerous EKGs and holters over the years and also two ECHOs. Everything is always OK. This problem started in 1989 with one or two episodes a year and has gotten progressively worse. I have found that these episodes occur more often about a week to two days before my period. Is there any connection with hormones? I have been told that it could just be stress, etc. What do you think? Thanks for any information you can give.
