Subject: Re: Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome My fiance was diagnosed as a child with WPW and treated with open heart surgery at the age of 18. The surgery was not successful and he now has a pacemaker to correct the problem. Will this make a difference in his health in the future? Also what are the chances that our children would contract this disease?
Dear Lisa, thank you for your question. This is a difficult question to answer since I don't know your fiance's medical history. If he is doing well now, his long-term health should be good, but I would need to know more about what happened during the surgery and why he needed a pacemaker. WPW is usually not genetically transmitted, but there are different variants of this disease. Thus, I suggest that you ask his cardiologist these exact questions for more specific answers. I hope you find this information useful. Information provided in the heart forum is for general purposes only. Only your physician can provide specific diagnoses and therapies. Please feel free to write back with additional questions. Good luck!
