Pacemaker moving under incision

by missiva, Aug 29, 1999 12:00AM
I had a pacemaker inserted in May, I have thought nothing of it, feeling fine.I have now run into a problem with my right shoulder, pacer is on the left, I have been in physical therapy for 17 sessions moving my arms straight back over my head, I now have more exercises to do a couple times a day, there is one where you put your arms straight out and lean into the wall, then push away from it, I happened to look at my chest in the mirror and my pacemaker is further down plus more over to the side nearer my arm, I called th 24 hr pacemaker center, they said if it moved surgeon would go in again and add more stitches, I called my Dr at home, he said it is impossible for the box to move, if it did I would have pain, shortness of breath and blackouts, I have to exercise to loosen shoulder, can this move the box by using chest muscle? I feel trapped Thanks Iva

It can move slightly when it is still "Fresh" but usually doesn't need any reoperation.  They may want to check a chest x-ray for lead placement but otherwise it's usually not a problem.
