Calcium deposits

by Art, Aug 30, 1999 12:00AM
I recently went to a chiropractor because of some neck and lower back pain. He ordered routine base line x-rays of my spine and head and neck. When he reviewed the films, he pointed out two areas that he said were 1)my carotid artery and 2)my abdominal aorta. He said they should not have appeared on the films and must therefore have a buildup of calcium deposits. My wife is upset and wants me to seek medical attention and I feel like I just want to wait a while and see if herbal therapy helps. What is your opinion?

Dear Art.

Calcium buildup in your arteries is secondary to plaques or blockages in them.  It is unlikely that your herbal preparations would help this.

I would suggest a full medical evaluation by a physician to determine the significance if any of these blockage.  Blockages in your carotid arteries can cause stroke and blockages or changes in the abdominal aorta can cause significant problems if left unattended to.
