Do I really need a cardiac cath?

by Bev, Sep 13, 1999 12:00AM
I had a echo with a bubble contrast. The cardiologist present said I had a small PFO. His report indicated I have a right to left shunt. I also had a cardiac shuntogram where they injected dye and did a scan of my lungs, head and kidneys. That test indicated no right to left shunt. My cardiologist now wants to do a cardiac cath. He said he wants to see if there really is a PFO. The other cardiologist who did the first tests said he could clearly see it. Do I really need to have a cardiac cath?

I have read they can cause a stroke, and that is what my doctors are trying to prevent? This is a HMO , that is why I am dealing with two different cardiologist? Thank you for any guidance you can give me.
