Accessory Path

by Tonya, Oct 30, 1999 12:00AM
My 4 yr. old son has been diagnosed with an accessory path way and has consistent extra beats every other beat. The Dr.'s have noted this for two years now. My question is does this neccessarily require some type of treatment(medication or surgical) or can he go without anything for the rest of his life? The cardiologist has avoided medication because of his age and the side affects, but mentioned Radio frequency ablation upon our last vist. We are wating to hear from an EP once he receives my sons records.

Thank You,

Tonya

This will not necessarily need any treatment.  It will depend on whether he develops any symptoms from it (e.g. racing heart, dizziness, etc).  If he does an ablation can cure this condition and he would not need to take medications.
