Can significant/severe regurgitation be dynamic?

by chris, Oct 30, 1999 12:00AM
Hello,

In the last year I've had two echocardiograms done in which both reports showed my level of regurg.of the mitral valve to be significant/severe.  My cardiologist feels that this must be dynamic as the other chambers etc. have not thickened or expanded as yet.  My question is whether this dynamic theory is plausible?  I do have faith in my cardiologist but there is a small degree of doubt in my mind.  I have all the various associated symtoms - palpitations. racing heart beats, headaches and fatigue - when I am not careful about getting enough rest.

Anyways at present time it is left to keep being monitored until I guess my heart shows sign of the other chambers enlarging etc.

Thank you,

Chris

All valvular flow abnormalities are dynamic in the sense that as the loading pressures of the heart change the flow changes.  This does not change the fact that you have severe regurgitation and will need to have this fixed at some point in the future.  I agree that waiting as long as possible is a good idea but it should be repaired before damage to the heart occurs.
