My 10 1/2 month old niece has been diagnosed with Patent Ductus Arteriosis, Atrial Septal Defect and Pulmonary Artery Hypertension.  She was diagnosed in Ann Arbor after having a heart cathertization, in which they had hoped of plugging the holes but the lungs developed too much pressure and they could not do anything for her.  They said it is now in God's hands for her survival.  Is it true that nothing can be done?  She weighs only 12.8 lbs. now.  They said if the holes in the heart had been found at an earlier date, then they might have been able to do something for her.  What, if any suggestions can you offer for her diagnosis?

This is a very difficult situation and there is probably not a lot that can be done. Unfortunately once the pressures reach a certain level they are irreversible and the holes cannot be closed.  Sorry to have to confirm this information.
