Chest and neck discomfort

by John Mc, Nov 08, 1999 12:00AM
I had double bypass surgery just over 1 year ago and I stll get chest discomfort.

The pain that I get is not angina (I don't think) and it appears to come on in spells (a few days at a time). It does not increase with exersion. It is centrally located around my heart and with each beat it can become a stabbing or more pronounced feeling. The pain tends to radiate up the right side of my neck and changes with deep breaths or movement.

I have seen the doctor about this and everything checks out OK. He relates it to an inflamation caused by perhaps a virus. Obviously after having bypass surgery a person tends to be more aware of these sort of aches and pains.

My question is: Are people who have had open heart surgery more succeptable to chest inflamations and if so should this diminish over time?

Thank you

John

No, there is no increase in chest inflammations in people who have had open heart.  Of course right after surgery there is a risk for infection but this does not persist.
