Can an Echocardiogram cause palpitations?

by Linda, Nov 13, 1999 12:00AM
I have mitral valve regurgitation.  After I had a recent stress/echocardiogram my heartbeat was very irregular for sometime afterward. Could the echocardiogram cause the palpitations to happen or is it just a coincidence?  I find that I do get upset having these tests so I would not be surprised if the palpitations resulted from the stress of having the stress/echocardiogram test.

Thanks.

An echocardiogram does not cause palpitations. Certain chemical stress tests (used instead of exercise) can trigger palpitations temporarily.
