Aeortal Stenosis

by Katia Galanek, Nov 22, 1999 12:00AM
My 24 year old daughter has been diagnosed as having Aeortal Stenosis.  She is very athletic and played basketball in college.  She now decided to train for a marathon.  She had an Echogram done and does have a cardiologist but he has only seen her twice since this is a very recent diagnosis.  I insisted that she call the doctor first but she is quite a stubborn young lady and I do not know if she will.  I need someone's opinion as to the dangers of running a marathon with such a condition.  I would really appreciate one.

Thank you.  Katia Galanek

Katia,

Your daughter should review this with her physician.  with an increase in heart raate, the AS may become significant and cause her symptoms and a decrease in blood pressure.

I had Aortic Stenosis repaired when I was young. She can pursue a very normal life yes even a little sports, but AFTER she takes care of this!!!!!Please use your nearest university hospital!!!!

This is not something she should ignore!!!!
