Vo2Max/Cardiovascular Capacity Tests

by Jerry Lifsey, Nov 25, 1999 12:00AM
I'm a 28 yr. old Male and just started a daily workout program.

I recently took a Fitness Assessment test at the YMCA and was curious about what the results mean and how to improve them.

I had a resting heart rate of 58 BPM (which was considered good)

and then after a 3 minute step test had 91 BPM (which was considered above average).  Is a lower resting heart rate and a higher "after-stress" heart rate better?  Or should the "after-stress" heart rate be lower?

Thank you!

Healthy athletes tend to have low resting heart rates. Their heart rate also tends to increase to a lesser degree than a non-athlete for the same level of exercise.
