My Grandfather died from a heart fibrilation, the doctor never told my family what caused it but he mentioned something about his drinking and smoking habits could that have caused the stress on his heart and if so, by chance, was the disease there before.

Ventricular fibrillation is a common cause of death, especially among the elderly. Drinking can cause the heart to become weak and predisposes to this arrhythmia, as does smoking. Heart attacks can also cause this arrhythmia.
