i was diagnosed with endocarditis in feb 07 & had a mitral valve repair because of vegitation and damage, this was after 14 months of being very unwell with high fevers, sweats etc i was being treated for sinusitis. it this was diagnosed at an earlier stage would i have still had to have a valve repair, i have no history of any heart problems.

Mick,

Thanks for the post. Sorry to hear of your recent health events.

It's really impossible to say. Endocarditis is a very serious illness. In some people it presents with fairly nonspecific symptoms and is often mistake for a viral type illness, bronchitis or a cold.

We see a wide spectrum of disease with people with endocardial infections.  Some have fairly limited damage to their cardiac structures, some have massive amounts and some actually die.

I'm glad you are doing better.

good luck

Could I ask something?  I didn't have high fever but my pacemaker site is sore for a while (mild).  My forehead is sweat (dripping) during my chest tightness and pressure on my head and some dizzyness.  My back upper chest area is extreme cold.  I'm on antibiotic because of throat infection, abcess and tooth problems etc... within one month.  My heart area is pain like a knife slicing and on the legs as well.  I can tolerate it because it is not stay long.  Also my palm (hand) start have spots pop up.  I've seen a GP but he said either is weather or cardic.  I'm unwell for a while already.  I hope someone can come in and shade a light.

Thanks

thanks for your reply

my biggest problem is that after 14 months of going back to my doctor every 2 weeks or so asking  for help because i was so ill & being given about 25 courses of antibiotics for so called sinusitis and not getting any better i would have thought he would have seen the sinusitis idea was totaly wrong and done some more tests, even the ENT consultant said that my sinuses were normal after a CT scan and i never had any signs of nasel discharge or sinus history. would you think that with all the symtoms i had from day, night sweats, very high temperature, fatigue, cough & severe headache even a murmer was picked up in the early days with a very fast heart rate but i was told that was stress
i know the important thing is that i am now hopefully fully recovered but i do find it hard to exceptthat the diagnoses of sinusitis could go on for so long with all the evidence against it

once again i thank you for reply
