cutaneous vasulitis

by Rae, Feb 09, 2000 12:00AM
Every month on first day of my period for the past three months

I have gotten red areas under my chin (adding a new one every month here) and only one below my shoulder on my back, about the size of a quarter.  They itch terribly and deepen in reddness with a dark center, They leave a dark area after they fade.  The doctor has given me Methylprednisolone for the symtons.  Please tell me something about what he calls cutaneous vasulitis and what specialist would be best to see to get to the cause. I'm 48 and in good health otherwise.

The usual appearance of vasculitis is raised, reddish-purple lumps on the legs, which persist, not come and go as yours seem to.  From your description, I cannot tell what you have.  Has your dermatologist done any blood tests or a biopsy?  I'm not sure they are needed, but if vasculitis is on the agenda, these would hlp clarify the situation.  You should discuss these matters with your dermatologist.

Best.
