Leg Rash and Lip Question

by Star, Mar 09, 2001 12:00AM
Hi Doctor,

I have had a red rash on my legs for about a year now.

It first developed after I used some self tanning products

My family doctor said folliculitus but I never got any pus filled pockets. Just red little bumps on my legs that don't itch or hurt at all.  Thing is I tried his antibiotics and I also

tried a topical cream, none of which have helped.  I don't have

medical insurance so it's expensive for me to visit doctor's and get the wrong medication...any thoughts???

Also, I noticed I have white pin sized bumps under the skin on my top lip - my family doctor says these are common to many people but doesn't say what from - any thoughts on this as well?

Thanks!!

Hard to say.  The white bumps on your top lip are probably sebaceous, or oil glands.  These are all over our bodies, but you can see them best when they occur on the red background of lip tissue.  They are normal and don't mean anything.

As for the spots on your leg, I'm honestly not sure, though I doubt they're any sort of reaction to the self-tanner.  Frankly, I doubt a doctor could do anything much about them anyway.  Still, I think you should show them to someone next time you go for a physical exam.

Best.
