pigmentation problems caused by birth marks and sun exposure

by biff, Apr 25, 2001 12:00AM
due to sun exposure one of my birthmarks which is rasied and brown was exposed and the sun caused for the skin around the birthmark to turn white..to be more specific there is no pigmentation there and this spot which is about the size of a dime, does not tan like the rest of the skin...this has happened to me in 3 different spots...the funny thing is the birthmarks are gone, but i am left with this white spot......my question is, is there anything i can do to get my pigmentation back???

It sounds like you are describing halo nevi.  These are benign and not from the sun.  Cause is unknown.  Over time, the pigment sometimes comes back by itself.  I suggest you show your doctor or dermatologist for definitive diagnosis.

Best.

I am 26 years old.  I have a cherry birthmark about 12 inches by 5 inches in my leg.  My skin itself does not look or feel abnormal when you touch it except for the color.  It has been the same size since I was born and my mother says my father had the same one and the exact location before he passed away.  My question is ...is there a surgery or medications that I can take? What kind of special doctor can I see? I have been trying to get information for the past 5 years.

Any information at all can help me a great deal.

Thanks for all your help.
