| Derm-M.D.-ASR 8/19/2001 | scarring | It's basically neither: neosporin is effective against the bacteria (like staph) which cause boils elsewhere than the face. For acne pimples, benzoyl peroxide (OTC) or other topical antibiotics (by Rx) do a better job. Of course, pimples go away by themselves if you leave them alone . . . Best.
