small bumps

by BobbyCh., Mar 26, 2003 12:00AM
Hello.  Tonight while showering I noticed that I have 5 small red bumps on the left side of my penis in the foreskin area.  I have no pain or discomfort and have not had unprotected oral or vaginal sex in six years (other than manual stimulation without a condem).  Two of the bumps look somewhat similar to a very, very mild canker sore (or cold sore?).  That's the best way to describe it.  The other three bumps are even smaller and are just red.  Could this be a rash, herpes or just irritation due to manual stimulation without a lubricant?  Thanks for your help.

It could be just irritation, as you suggest.  However, it could conceivably be an infection of some sort, if some of the spots look like canker sores.  I think you ought to have this looked at right away, not because this is an emergency, but because a doctor will be able to make a definitive diagnosis best if the lesions are fresh.  If you wait and the bumps dry up or go away, you'll be left with unresolvable anxiety over what may be nothing.

Viruses like herpes can be latent (quiet and hiding) for years.  That's why you should be seen, tested, and properly diagnosed.  I suugest a walk-in clinic if you don't have a regular doctor.

Best.
