Chin acne like/rash

by SebJes, Nov 14, 2003 12:00AM
Hello,

I have an acne like rash that appears on both sides of my chin area.  I have to be very careful what cleansing products I use because at times it will get very irritated and red.  I have been struggling with this in some form for about 3yrs.  I have seen a derm and I seem to get a little relief but it nevers goes completely away.  I can actually recall how this started.  I remember getting some dryness in the area (flaking actually).  Someone actually questioned me at that time why that was.  I just said it was a little dry.  I have no idea how it proceeded to this point after that.  I guess I ignored the original symptoms.  I have tried many different herbal remedies.  None working. I have even be told to cleanse my liver which I am actually considering because of frustration. Spent money on the top skin care lines.  Actually lately, because I switched my skin care I contributed to more of my face appearing red.  Some cleansers help, but dry me, then I feel like I need a moisturizer which always makes my skin worse.  What a cycle!  3days ago I called my derm in a panic.  The trying of different skin care products made me worse. My chin was beat red and the rest of my face getting more pink.  I have pink tones anyway. She was nice enough to call me in tetrycline for 30days.  Then I will be able to get in to see her.  This may give me some relief, but, I just don't know if this is going to get to the root of the problem.  Any advise would be so greatly appreciated it.  As you can see, I have been frustrated.  I haven't ruled out mild Rosacea.  But when I saw my derm a year ago, she said I have overreacting skin.  Please let me know your opinion.

        PS.  I am a 35yr old Female

There isn't any root of the problem.  Whether it's acne or rosacea, it's a problem that has to managed, as you put it, until it's under control and goes away.  Please don't waste any money on fancy skin products--these are fine, but don't clear up acne.  Also, please don't bother cleansing your liver.

My advice is to work with your dermatologist.  Regular use of oral and topical therapy, along with avoidance of picking,m rubbing, or trauma, will get you where you need to go.  Patience is easy for me to counsel, but it's what you need.

Best.
